11 bit studios announces This War of Mine!

11 bit studios recently announced a new IP called This War of Mine. Inspired by real-life events, this new title puts a unique spin on a military game.

TWoM is a dark survival game where players control a group of civilians trying to stay alive in a besieged city. Venturing out during the day isn’t smart; snipers await anyone foolish enough to try. Gamers will have to use that time to craft items, trade, upgrade their shelter, feed and cure their people. When the sun sets, they’ll be able to search nearby areas for food, medicines, weapons and more.

“This can happen in your city, in your country,” Michal Drozdowski, lead designer, said. “While designing a new game, we came across an article that described how one man survived in a besieged city. We learned about his hardships and the horror of that experience. We decided to work around this idea and make something real, something that moves people and make them think for a second. It’s about time that games, just like any other art form, start talking about important things.”

“In war, not everyone is a soldier”…it does make me think. Though I must admit, I’m more excited to see how the game turns out more than anything else. We’ll have to wait and see if TWoM is as thought provoking as 11 bit hopes it’ll be. Till then, we leave you with this wonderfully grim teaser trailer:
