EA is pulling out the big guns concerning their upcoming NBA Live title. Given the fact that the 2K series has been (for the most part) the only NBA games to get much notice nowadays, something needed to be done if EA was going to compete. In an attempt to meet this challenge head on, EA made history – they announced today that the WNBA teams and players will be playable in NBA Live 18.

This is huge. NBA Live 18 will mark the first time the official WNBA’s roster of teams/players will appear in a video game. Head scans of star athletes like Diana Taurasi and Sylvia Fowles were done, motion capture sessions were held, and each player’s ratings and skills were fine-tuned to present the league in the most authentic way possible. Or so says EA…

"We are extremely proud to partner with the WNBA and the Women's National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) on this groundbreaking occasion," said NBA LIVE Executive Producer Sean O'Brien. "The WNBA is home to some of the most incredible athletes on the planet, and we've been working hard to integrate them into our game in an authentic and meaningful way. This is only a taste of what we have in store, and look forward to working with the league on more great integrations in the franchise in the future."

There’s no telling if the WNBA will help EA sell more copies of NBA Live 18. I mean, the past iterations had a hard time meeting NBA 2K’s quality; remember this series was canceled at one time. That said, this is good news. Here’s hoping things turn out well!

NBA Live 18 will be available this September for the Xbox One and PS4.
