Capcom Announces MvC: Infinite’s Release Date!

Capcom released new information about their upcoming fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite. Not only did they reveal more of the roster (some of which are a part of a season pass) but also the game’s release date!

Thanks to an old announcement, we already knew about the 2v2 fighting, the cinematic story mode, and the presence of the infinity gems. What we didn’t know was the reason heroes and villains from these two universes were fighting one another. Well, it seems that Ultron was somehow able to merge with Sigma (the main antagonist of the Mega Man X series), creating what I’d call our worst nightmare – Capcom calls him Ultra Sigma.  Apparently, he’s hell bent on infecting all organic life with a cybernetic virus, forcing the unlikely alliance between the Marvel and Capcom universes.

Capcom also revealed new characters coming to the game’s roster. We have Ultron of course, followed by the Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Chun-Li, Strider Hiryu, and Chris Redfield. They’ll join the previously announced cast featuring Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Captain America, Ryu, Mega Man X, and Morrigan. Of course, there’s also a season pass. With it, gamers will unlock six other characters (one of which is Sigma).

Normally I don’t lose sleep over collector’s editions, but I do like what I see in the limited Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite bundle. For $199.99 gamers get dioramas of Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and Chun-Li, a case filled with six Infinity Stone replicas, as well as Steelbook packaging containing the Deluxe Edition of the game (it comes with the season pass). The game by itself will be $59.99…so you’re paying about $140 for the extra stuff, give or take.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is looking to be a contender for best fighting game of the year. At least, on paper as I’ve yet to play it and making such boasts right now would be foolish. Still, Capcom and Marvel are doing a decent job of building hype. We’ll have to wait and see when the game releases on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this September 19th!
