Dotemu Announces Streets of Rage 4

It seems like sequels for classic SEGA titles are being announced more and more. First, there was Sonic Mania. Now, there’s Streets of Rage 4…ok, so maybe there hasn’t been a slew of sequels being released as of late. Still, two older games from SEGA’s past getting sequels is big news!

Seriously, how often have we pleaded with SEGA (and other developers/publishers) to let someone remake and/or develop a sequel for a popular series? Instead, fan made titles are pulled while indie devs settle for an homage. That’s not the case here. Publisher Dotemu (Wonder Boy, Windjammers) and developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games announced that they’re developing Streets of Rage 4. Beat’em up fans rejoice!

Streets of Rage 4 will apparently feature classic beat’em up gameplay, new mechanics (I’d assume this means modern elements given the series’ age) and a fresh new story. Check out the trailer below for a glimpse of what’s to come.

So far, there’s been no word on what console/platform Streets of Rage 4 is coming to – don’t even ask about a release date. If I were to make a guess though, I’d say it’s a shoe-in for the Nintendo Switch. Punching bad guys in the face is an on-the-go type of activity. We’ll have to wait and see where the game ends up. Whatever the case, be sure to check back here as we continue to follow this title!
