Dungeon Defenders DLC Released Early?

Update: The 10 new weapons and new pets will be patched into the console version in the first patch early next year.

Update #2: Gregory Hutto, Reverb’s PR Manager just emailed me confirming that the DLC was released accidentally. Awesome!

Update #3: I forgot that the Complete Pack of all 4 parts of the Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards is available now on Steam for a limited time for only $9.75 (retail $12.99).

So, I was playing Dungeon Defenders on my Xbox 360 a few days ago. I was upgrading my weapons and waiting for my brother to get online so we could play together. Upon getting online, he noticed that there was a DLC pack released for DD. It was the Eternia Shards Part 1 pack. Being a big fan of the game he immediately dropped the 300 some-odd points for it. I figured, I’d get the DLC later as I was in the middle of a game and didn’t want to quit. This brings me to today. I got a press release from Reverb, the company doing PR for Trendy Entertainment. The press released informed me that the new DLC (the one my brother downloaded) was slated to drop on December 21st. The Steam version was released today. I thought…”so how did my brother get it”. I signed into Xbox Live to see if the content was still available and it’s no longer there. Interesting!

It seems like the DLC was released early by accident as it’s supposed to come out later this month. I contacted Reverb about it; so far, we’ve got no response. Personally, I think this is pretty cool. We’ve all seen these types of things happen before with other titles (cough, cough, Halo 4, cough), but it’s different when you experience it firsthand.

As for the rest of the press releases, it talked about the new Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards DLC. It’s broken up into 4 parts that will be released at different times. Each quest (part) will take players through an entirely new campaign map, new PvP map, new challenge mission, enemies, 10 new weapons, a new pet, a new boss, and more. If you’re playing on Steam, you can purchase all four packs early and get exclusive early access to Nightmare Mode. This is a super hard mode that eventually unlocks for PC owners who have all of the 4 DLC packs. Hopefully, this new mode will make it to consoles (along with the new characters). Either way, this awesome title is getting better all the time!
