Fortnite Battle Royal Will Be Free-for-All…Literally!

Epic Games recently announced that Fortnite Battle Royale – its special PvP mode – will be free for everyone starting September 26th. This is true even if you haven’t bought the main game…

This might seem a bit confusing at first; Fortnite is currently in Early Access, with the goal of going free-to-play early next year. However, the PvP mode will be free next week regardless. I assume this is to encourage players to invest in the main game, which is quite fun to say the least.

As for the Battle Royale mode, it apes battle games like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, The Culling, H1Z1: King of the Kill and so on. 100 players will skydive onto a giant map before scrambling for weapons to which to defends themselves. What’s interesting is that you’ll still be able to build structures and set traps (like in the main game). Though my time playing has been short, I didn’t see many traps being deployed – it’s possible they haven’t been fully implemented yet. I did see people build staircases leading up into the sky in hopes of getting the drop on opponents. This didn’t always work of course. All you need is for someone to shoot the bottom out, causing your carefully made ascension to heaven to come tumbling down.

We’ll of course post our full coverage of all that Fortnite has to offer soon. In the meantime, take a look at this trailer and get ready for next week!
