Microsoft Shares New Xbox Series X Details

Phil Spencer shared new details about the Xbox Series X today. He listed the console’s internal specs, improvements to past features, and a bit about cloud-based gaming. What stood out the most though, was the Smart Delivery system.

Microsoft has arguably created the world’s most powerful console. 12 TFLOPS of GPU, a custom designed processor (which utilizes AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures), DirectX Raytracing, 120 FPS support – basically, it’ll much stronger than the Xbox One X and a solid competitor to the PS5.

Phil highlights other aspects. Some are better versions of old features; the Quick Resume function allows multiple games to be resumed from suspended states this time around. One of the newest and most impressive features is the Smart Delivery system. This tech allows players to buy a game for the Xbox One or Xbox Series X and play it on either console.

Going further, this tech isn’t just being used by first party titles. It’ll be available for all developers and publishers. For instance, it’s possible to buy Cyberpunk 2077 for the Xbox One and play it on the Xbox Series X when it releases later this year.

Microsoft is creating a hub of sorts. It isn’t just about once console. It’s about all of their consoles. Fans will be able to play backward-compatible Xbox and Xbox 360 games, Xbox One games, and next gen games all of the same console. Shared accessories – the ability to use Xbox One controllers and such with the Xbox Series X – cross-play with PC, and Smart Deliver bolster this idea of interconnectivity.

The next gen race is heating up. We can’t wait to hear more from Microsoft (and Sony) about what’s to come!
