New Need For Speed Coming This Holiday!

Following Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal, a lot of publishers have been announcing their games for the next gen system. Most of which weren’t surprises; we knew they couldn’t announce them till the system was “official”. That’s not the case with EA’s announcement today. A new Need for Speed is headed for next gen systems later this year!

This new title, called Need for Speed Rivals, is being developed by EA’s newest studio, Ghost Games in partnership with Criterion Games. It is being built using Frostbite 3 (which means it won’t be coming to the Wii U unfortunately) and will feature cop vs. racer open road racing. As a racer, the goal is to become infamous by capturing their craziest escapes on video. Losing the cops nets Speed Points used to unlock new cars and items. Gamers playing as the cops will need to work together to bring down rival racers. They’ll be able to unlock police-only cars and pursuit tech when they rank up after successful busts. Sounds interesting!

For the first time in seven years, gamers will be able to use Ferraris in a Need for Speed game (including the F12berlinetta). Adding to this is the ability to customize vehicles (performance upgrades, paintjobs, etc.), to unlock pursuit and evasion tech, a network that collects driving data to compare with friends using Autolog, and more.

Need for Speed Rivals is set to be released in November 19th for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC while the Xbox One and PS4 versions will come out later in the year.
