Nintendo Wins Mii Patent Case!

Nintendo announced that they won their most recent patent case. I say recent because it seems like they get taken to court every other month…

This latest case had to do with RecogniCorp, LLC asserting that Nintendo’s Mii characters employed the same techniques described in their patent for making police sketches of suspects. The good news is that the lawsuit, originally filed back in 2011, was has been resolved; a federal appeals court confirmed that the patent asserted against Nintendo should never have been granted.

“We are very pleased with the court’s decision,” said Ajay Singh, Nintendo of America’s Director of Litigation and Compliance. “The decision marks another case in which Nintendo’s unique ideas overcame unjustified threats of patent infringement. Nintendo has a long history of developing innovative products and we will continue to vigorously defend all our products from meritless patent lawsuits.”

Of course, if Nintendo did infringe on another company’s patents, I’d want them to answer for it. At the same time, I want Nintendo to win every case in which a company (allegedly) brings about an unjustified lawsuit.
