Nintendo Reveals New-ish Pokemon Titles in Direct Video!

When Nintendo announced that they were going to release an eight-minute direct video center on their Pokemon franchise, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, just how much “good” information can be shared in eight minutes…apparently, not much!

Feel free to check out the direct video below, read my thoughts on what was shown or a little of both. It's your call...

The biggest news has to be that a new version of Pokken Tournament is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Called Pokken Tournament DX, this version will feature five new Pokemon (Decidueye, Empoleon, Croagunk, Scizor, and Darkrai), a new 3v3 team battle mode, online ranked play and more. Now that might not be enough for fans of the original, considering that they already own it. Personally, as someone who missed out when it dropped on the Wii U, I’m excited. It’s like getting a game of the year edition of a title you passed on earlier. Not only that but this trend could continue; I need a Super Smash Bros. for the Switch Nintendo, make it happen!

Pokken Tournament DX will be available on the Nintendo Switch this September 22nd. Awesome. Unfortunately, Pokemon Stars was nowhere to be found. For that matter, beyond PTDX, there isn’t a Pokemon game that’s headed to the Switch. This is strange considering how EVERYONE wants to play a Pokemon game on the console/handheld. No, instead we got Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, coming exclusively to the 3DS this November (the 17th to be exact).

While it’s nice to have new Pokemon games coming to the 3DS, why the remake/extended edition of previously released titles? I mean, I know they are technically new games, but Sun and Moon dropped last year…was it too soon to create something new? Probably. It didn’t help that Nintendo revealed that Pokemon Gold and Silver will be hitting the Virtual Console. More old games and a slap in the face of the Switch (which its own VC is still up in the air).

To be fair, E3 is next week. There’s bound to be plenty reveals/announcements for hype’s sake. I just think that it would be nice to have some new titles, like ARMS, Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 2. And while I love my 3DS, there’s plenty of Pokemon goodness on it already!
