Samurai Shodown Gets a Release Date

SNK has finally revealed the release date for Samurai Shodown. The date itself isn’t the most notable aspect of this announcement though. The season pass is…

Samurai Shodown will be released on June 25th. Everyone who pre-orders or buys the game before June 30th will be able to download the Season Pass for free (through the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live). Koichi Toyama, Company President at SNK, said that the offer was “a thank you to the fans who have stuck with [them] during the long wait between the franchise installments.”

What this means is that fans who purchase the game and redeem the Season Pass early on, will receive the game’s first six months of DLC. That includes four new fighters!

SNK also talked about Samurai Shodown’s various game modes. There will be a story mode, a training mode, online/offline play, and the new Dojo mode – a place where players can battle “ghost” versions of themselves and others.

“Dojo Mode has been a franchise aspiration for the team for some time now and an evolution to the fighting genre that we’re very proud of,” said SNK Lead Producer, Yasuyuki Oda. “Not only will it give players the opportunity to play against the ghosts of some of the best Samurai Shodown players in the world, but playing against your own ghost will prove an amazing tool to learn more about your own playstyle.”

The latest Shodown looks to be a real winner. We’ll be sure to keep you updates as we continue to cover this title.

Samurai Shodown will launch on the PS4 and Xbox One on June 25th, with the Nintendo Switch and PC versions coming at a later date.
