THQ Nordic Acquires the Kingdoms of Amalur!

THQ Nordic’s recent announcement of their acquisition of the “Kingdoms of Amalur” IP raised a lot of eyebrows. Probably because no one expected to ever hear about this series again. With the original publisher (38 Studios LLC) filing for bankruptcy, a lawsuit filed by the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, and mention of securities fraud – all over the course of multiple years after their one and only game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning shipped – that reaction is understandable.

THQ Nordic AB is handling the acquisition while THQ Nordic deals with the daily operations; the potential sequels, sales and distribution, etc. Hopefully, this means we’ll be getting a new KoA game. The deal was for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and the abandoned MMORPG (project Copernicus), so there’s plenty of room to create. At the very least, THQ will release an enhanced version of Reckoning with all of the usual fixins!
