We Happy Few Has Been Funded!

Compulsion Games has done it. Their upcoming title, We Happy Few has reached its Kickstarter goal of $250,000!

We Happy Few’s tale takes place in a retro-futuristic city called Wellington Wells during an alternative history 1964 England. Its inhabitants are forced to take Joy, some sort “happy” drug that keeps them docile…at least until they spot someone acting normal. Then they become violent. It’s up to you to escape this false utopia without blowing your cover; I recall stating that it was like The Stepford Wives meets BioShock Infinite.

Back to the Kickstarter, Compulsion is pushing to meet some stretch goals. This includes a new Sandbox Mode that allows for a customized the experience and the ability to play as a Welly (a Joy popping citizen) to see things from the other side.

For those on the fence of supporting the game, check out the main features:

•    A procedurally generated world: Each time you die or beat the game, your next adventure through Wellington Wells will be different. Forget about relying on the city’s layout to escape!

•    A sophisticated suspicion system: The inhabitants of Wellington Wells expect you to behave in very specific ways—if they suspect you’re not taking your Joy, they’ll quickly identify you as a Downer.

•    Frenzied combat: Downers aren’t very popular in Wellington Wells. In fact, Wellies tend to get a bit violent whenever one walks by.

•    Twisted survival mechanics: In this urban setting, avoiding the Wellies’ fury often means hiding in plain sight.

•    An elaborate crafting system: Salvage supplies and Joy-tainted food to stay alive, but be careful not to overdose!

Of course, We Happy Few doesn’t have a release date (and is currently only slated to be released on the PC). We’ll be sure to keep you updated as things continue to develop though!
