Capcom Shares Street Fighter V’s Story Bits!

Capcom recently provided new details on the story elements to be included in Street Fighter V. It appears that things are a bit different than one would expect…

Each fighter will have their own story that will provide background info of their relationships with other fighters and roles within the game. What’s interesting is that these individual threads will serve as a prologue to the main cinematic expansion that’ll come in June as a free update. Taking place between the events of Street Fighter IV and III – with SF III set in the future while IV and V act as prequels – this expansion will allow players to play through the story in a brand new way.

It would appear that the story will unfold in a way similar to how NetherRealm titles have in the last few years, where players will control specific characters in relation to the ongoing narrative. While this is certainly a good thing, I have to wonder why Capcom would delay the expansions release. Are they hoping players will finish the prologue completely before moving on or is this a way to keep people interested in the game post launch? You know…beyond the extra characters?

Whatever the case, I’m looking forward to what SFV has to offer when it’s released on February 16th. Hopefully, it will be worth the hype its generated.
