First Screens of The War of the Worlds!

There were a lot of great titles being shown off at PAX this past weekend. While we were dealing with Irene, gamers were playing demos of upcoming titles. One title that was featured at PAX was Other Ocean Interactive’s The War of the Worlds. People really seemed to enjoy this title. That could have been due to the classic gameplay that pays homage to oldies like Prince of Persia and Flashback. It could have been the fact that it was narrated by Sir Patrick Stewart or that it has some of the coolest looking graphics this side of Bastion. I’m guessing it was the combination of all those things.

“The War of the Worlds is a dark and breathtaking new vision inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel, retold as a single player, 2D action-adventure. The gameplay narrative parallels the timeline and events from the 1953 movie adaptation, but introduces a new story arc, characters, locations, and sub-plots.” – press

The screens look amazing. They were pulled from the first level of the game, Paddington Station, where gamers will learn the ropes. It looks like the main character was in the wrong place when everything hit the fan. At least he’s still alive!

I for one can’t wait to play this title. Launching on XBLA and PSN later this year, The War of the Worlds looks like it’s going to be great. For those of you eager to learn more about this title, check out the first of the “Arthur Diaries” featuring gameplay narrated by Sir Patrick Stewart:
