Funcom Reveals Metal: Hellsinger
IGN’s Summer of Gaming event showcased a ton of exciting looking games. One of the more interesting games shown – at least from Day 1 – was The Outsiders’ Metal: Hellsinger.
Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm-based FPS. Gamers will need to shoot on beat in order to increase their power. Doing so will allow them to slay demons left and right as the music intensifies.
The idea was to create the most “metal game ever,” said The Outsiders’ Creative Director David Goldfarb. “To make something that felt like a tribute to the epic imagination and joy and fury of metal – not just in terms of music, but art style, characters, lore.”
To that end, the game isn’t just about shooting. It’s also about the music. Each level will feature its own song and every song will be divided into multiple layers. A player’s performance impacts how many layers of the song are played; it’ll start with atmospheric music and end with a completed song.
Metal: Hellsinger look like a lot of fun – the Doom x Crypt of the Necrodancer vibe is alluring. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on it as we inch towards its 2021 release.
Metal: Hellsinger will be released on PC, current and next-gen consoles sometime next year.
