NetherRealm Announces Mortal Kombat 11

It appears that the rumors were true. Or rather, fans were hoping to hear about a new Mortal Kombat game at the Game Awards. Either way, its presence – and the mysterious/over-the-top trailer – was well received.

The announcement trailer showcased multiple Scorpions facing multiple Raidens; Mortal Kombat 11 will feature a time bending story, similar to the MK9. Only this time, players will be able to pick between different versions of characters. Not just with different weapons and slight changes to a move list, but also as younger/older heroes and villains.

This new Custom Character Variation System builds on the mechanics introduced in MKX. Players will have creative control over building customized version for popular characters. While this sounds cool and all, I wonder how this will affect the game’s balancing. NetherRealm did a great job with Injustice 2 – given all of the different item/gear players could equip. We’ll have to wait till Mortal Kombat II: The Reveal, the community celebration of MK that takes place at 11am PST (2pm ET) on January 17th, 2019. The event will be livestreamed globally via Twitch, proving a look into the game’s mechanics as well as providing the first opportunity for fans to play the new game.

Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to be released for the Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC on April 23rd, 2019. Be sure to check back here as we continue to cover this title!
