Nintendo’s Amiibos Are Ready to be Pre-Ordered!

Nintendo announced their holiday plans today. Some of which happens to deal with Nintendo’s foray into the toy business.

The amiibo figures that were revealed during E3 are currently available for pre-order. Gamers can purchase the first 12 figures to be used in Super Smash Bros for the Wii U; the first game that will have full amiibo functionality. Other games will support the figures, just not to the extent of SMB. Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Mario Party 10 are just a few of the titles announced with this feature.

Right now there’s no set date for their launch, though I suspect it’s because Nintendo is waiting to release them alongside Smash Bros. I’m curious to see how they work – is it like Skylanders and Disney Infinity or something else? Why use them when you can just play as each character in the associated game, beyond leveling them up? Also, how will Nintendo balance matches between leveled up amiibos and their counterparts in games like Smash Bros.? I guess we’ll have to wait till this holiday to find out!
