Sony Reveals the PS5

Sony finally revealed the PS5. Coming this holiday season, the stylish next-gen console will offer fans two separate options. A standard model with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a digital model. Interesting…

The PS5 stream showcased a lot of cool looking games. What stood out was the console itself though, considering this was its unveiling. The new two-tone design was certainly eye catching, comparisons to routers and such notwithstanding.

Beyond its looks and impressive specs – eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU, something, something, teraflops – the system sported two versions. For the first time, Sony is launching with a digital only console. That’s a huge deal; the market is moving in this direction, with older gamers like me kicking and screaming along the way.

We also got a look at some of the console’s accessories. There was a DualSense charging station, a new wireless headset and more. Sony even unveiled a new media remote.

The one thing they didn’t reveal was the console’s price or release date (beyond a “holiday season” place holder). While Sony still has time to announce, and possibly tweak, these factors, it’s hard not being disappointed. This is especially true when it comes to price; Corona season has encouraged tempered spending.

What we can say is that the digital version will certainly be cheaper than the standard. We’ll have to wait until Sony decides to share the cost before making any judgments though. Hopefully, the console won’t be too pricey. The last thing they’d want to do is give Microsoft an advantage – which could be why Sony is keeping quiet.
