Techland Shared New Info About Hellraid!

Techland released some new information about their upcoming Hellraid title yesterday. Apparently it’s a first-person co-op slasher (a new genre of sorts), a possible evolution to the gameplay found in their Dead Island titles.

Techland shared that the game will feature a single player campaign and a cooperative mode a while back. Yesterday they explained or rather hinted at the possibility of playing through the story with friends. Playing solo, gamers will be able to explore the world while completing quests and gathering loot. When playing with others, they’ll be able to play any levels using a web of magic portals. Friends will be able to compete for points, experience, rewards and places on leaderboards. Like an arcade version of the normal campaign; at least that’s what I got from the press release.

They also revealed that there are four character classes (Mage, Warrior, Paladin and Rogue) featuring their own upgradable skill trees. To further differentiate from one another, gamers will be able to customize their weapons and gear using an advanced crafting system.

The last thing that was announced was the Game Master. This system was inspired by the pen and paper RPG games as it makes each playthrough a little different than the last. The Game Master selects the competitive challenges for players, where things are, and the numbers and types of enemies. It reminds me a little of the system Turtle Rock used in the Left 4 Dead games. What’s interesting is that the Game Master is present in the single player and co-op modes!

Hellraid has my attention for the moment. With the news of Techlands other title (Dying Light) it makes me wonder if they are becoming the “first-person slasher” developer. That’s not necessarily a bad thing…it’s just interesting.

Hellraid drops later this year for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Be sure to check back as we continue to cover this title!
