Zombies are Back in New RE Title!

Capcom has announced Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is currently in development for next gen systems! Scheduled to be released this winter, this new title takes the series in a new direction. Gamers will be able to team up with three of their friends in this third person shooter and take on the undead inhabitants of Raccoon City. The story takes place between Resident Evil 2 and 3 when the entire city was ravaged by the T-virus. Gamers will face zombies, infected creatures (like the lickers) and even an opposing squad. Check out the press release:

“It is September 1998 and the action centers once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella’s actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favorite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.”

I can’t wait to play this title. Capcom (who has partnered with Slant 6 Games to develop the game) has also announced the inclusion of competitive multiplayer modes set in the Resident Evil Universe. Hopefully, we’ll finally get a dodge or roll added to our move list. We’ll need these maneuvers if we’re going to play competitively online.

The last bit of good news for RE fans was the inclusion of the Resident Evil Revelations demo that’s included with the Mercenaries title coming to the 3DS! Out of all the good news presented here, the best part has to do with the fact that zombies will be included in a RE title once more. This is going to be an awesome winter!
