Breath of the Wild Won GOTY; Nintendo Revealed Bayonetta 3!

Nintendo received a decent number of honors during the Game Awards last night. They even took home the coveted Game of the Year award for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (a first for the company). While being recognized by the gaming industry is always a plus, the love shown for their titles wasn’t the only reason Nintendo had a great night.

I mean, we all knew that the second Breath of the Wild DLC pack was coming before the end of the year. I don’t think many expected it to be reveal last night, much less that it would be available right then and there…well, a few hours later. Called The Champions’ Ballad, this new pack offers players a new story based adventure. It’ll dive into the background of the game’s four champions, supply a new dungeon to explore and grant access to nine new armor items for players to find.

It’s also feature a new mode of transportation. Namely a motorcycle called Master Cycle Zero (to which some believe it to be the prototype of the Master Cycle seen in Mario Kart 8). The Champions’ Ballad can only be purchased as a part of the Expansion Pass; whether you were interested in the Trial of the Sword pack or not, you’ll still have to drop $19.99 to play the second one. Thankfully, they both are/seem to be worth the money.

The real surprise from Nintendo came by way of Bayonetta. Not only are they porting Bayonetta 1 and 2 in a handy dandy bundle (dropping next Feb.), but also teased Bayonetta 3. PlatinumGames is developing it exclusively for the Nintendo Switch – I’m assuming it’s coming sometime after E3 next year. With no gameplay shown (it’s currently in development), Nintendo will probably wait to show it off during a Direct Video in June.

Nintendo has had a momentous year. It makes sense for them to end it on a high note. Here’s hoping we see a repeat in 2018!
