Illfonic Announces Predator: Hunting Grounds

Illfonic is becoming one of my favorite developers. Being fans of (seemingly) the same film franchises, they work on some of my most anticipated titles. The latest of which being Predator: Hunting Grounds.

Their first movie-based title was the asymmetrical horror game, Friday the 13th: The Game. And while it wasn’t as successful as they’d have hoped – it sold well but had a rocky launch and licensing issues that halted the development of future content – it was still a noteworthy game. Learning from that experience, Illfonic is upping the ante for Predator.

Partnering up with Sony Interactive Ent. and Fox, Illfonic is looking to craft an interesting asymmetrical online experience that pits a group of soldiers against a Predator. The soldiers will utilize conventional weapons like shotguns and sniper rifles as they try to carry out paramilitary missions. While this is going on, the Predator player will try to hunt them down using the normal alien tools of the trade – including his advanced vision mode and cloaking ability.

One of note is how there will be AI enemies. Apparently, the missions are treated as a separate thing; the players acting as soldiers aren’t there just to fight the Predator. It’s basically like the first film.

Predator: Hunting Grounds is still being worked on; it currently has a vague 2020 launch date. We’ll probably hear more about it during E3 though. Here’s hoping we get to see the Predator in action.
