NetherRealm Delights Fans During MK11 Event

NetherRealm’s big MK11 reveal event went off without a hitch yesterday. Fans were able to get a glimpse at new and returning characters, learn a little more about the story, and see some brutal fatalities. It was good times all-around!

MK11 picks up right after the events of the last game; the new prologue (shown below) depicts how Shinnok lost his head. It also introduces a new antagonist. Named Kronika – the first female boss character in MK history – she’s revealed to be the creator of existence. Apparently, she was the force driving everything that’s happened…up until the point Raiden starts altering the past.

NetherRealm also reveal the game’s first seven characters. Classic kombatants include Sonya Blade (who’s voiced by Ronda Rousey), Baraka, Raiden, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero. There was one new character: a time controlling fighter named Geras. Skarlet, who was a DLC character in MK9 also joins the fray.

From there we got to see new customization options – beyond the ability to play as younger and older versions of characters – that’s reminiscent to what was seen in Injustice 2, new fatalities, and more. What was most interesting though, was the changes to the fighting system. Now players will have separate energy bars for offensive and defensive maneuvers. Before, if you wanted to do an enhanced/altered version of a move, stop a combo, etc., you had to manage all of them using one source. Having two different bars means no more forgoing your offensive options to save up for a critical defensive move and vice versa.

Mortal Kombat 11 looks great so far. I’m looking forward to learning more in the coming months. Once that happens, I’ll be sure to news here!

Mortal Kombat 11 will be available on the Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC come April 23rd.
