Nintendo’s Launching The NX/New Legend of Zelda in 2017!

Nintendo made some big announcements today. During their earnings announcement of the fiscal year, which ended on March 31, they shared news about Miitomo, The Legend of Zelda, and their next video game system!

On the mobile front, Nintendo had a lot to share. Their first app, Miitomo, has crossed 10 million unique users worldwide. In the US, it reached #1 free app status in various online stores shortly after it released back in March. To celebrate this news, Nintendo will run a special 10-day promotion from April 29th – May 8th.

The next two apps will be focused on the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises. The Fire Emblem inspired app will be a role-playing strategy game that is a little more accessible than its handheld counterpart; I’m assuming things like permadeath are being nixed. The Animal Crossing app will connect to the main titles in the series in some way. Both of them are scheduled to release this fall.

The new Legend of Zelda game is launch simultaneously for both the Wii U and NX. Because both versions are being developed in tandem, Nintendo will need time to polish them. What this means is that we won’t get the latest installment of this beloved franchise until next year sometime.

Speaking of next year, Nintendo revealed that the NX will be released in March of 2017. Not only that but it won’t make an appearance at E3 this year (though, they did say that it will be unveiled this year). What’s interesting is that Nintendo will only have one playable game at E3, that being the Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda. With only one game being shown off (as of right now) and no NX, what do gamers have to look forward to? Is there nothing else worth noting being released this year or are they saving some reveals for later events? We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.
