Ubisoft Announces Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
Ubisoft officially announced a new Ghost Recon title today. Named Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, this newest installment is poised to be the biggest in the franchise.
Breakpoint will task players with surviving behind enemy lines. After being sent out to investigate Auroa – a mysterious island housing some of the most technically advanced facilities on Earth – the Ghosts’ helicopter is shot down. The Wolves, an ex-US Military unit made up of former Ghosts gone rogue, has taken over Auroa. And because they aren’t looking to relinquish control of the island anytime soon, they’ve taken it upon themselves to make the first move (resulting in the aforementioned helicopter crash).
Beyond an interesting premise, Breakpoint will offer new gameplay mechanics. It’ll still feature a large open world and tactical tools seen in Wildlands. But it’ll also be interesting stealth mechanics, realistic skills – like the ability to carry a downed teammate to safety before reviving them – and more.
Beyond the solo/four player campaign (and the newly announced raids), players will be able to engage in competitive PvP options. They’ll be able to keep their characters and progression regardless of what mode they play though.
The game looks good – the walkthrough embedded above is proof. That said, I wonder if Ubisoft is worried about player fatigue. Considering that The Division 2 is still alive and other open world games are on the way, it can feel like there isn’t enough time to play everything. Ubisoft has already revealed some details about Breakpoint’s roadmap of content coming post launch. Meaning that fans are expected to sink a decent amount of time in Breakpoint, even after new Division 2 content is released. Whatever the case, I’m sure it’s going to sell. It’s hard not to be excited for a new Tom Clancy title…
